Island Food~Food of the Caribbean

April 7 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Great date night or night out with friends!  Welcome the summer with this flavorful cuisine!!

The summers in Illinois can be so blazing hot and humid, you might feel like you’re on a tropical island! Instead of hiding from the heat, let’s embrace it with delicious food from the Caribbean! The Caribbean consists of all the islands and coasts in the Caribbean Sea. Its a beautiful melting pot of cultures, resulting in food that embraces warm weather and fresh air. What could be better than grilling delicious food outside in the sunshine, with a cold drink in hand? We’ll take the spirit of the Caribbean and have a feast right here in the Midwest. We’ll be making summer time dishes such as: Jerk Chicken, Cuban Sandwiches, Fried Plantains, Guyanese Pepperpot, Pelau, Roti, and Pineapple Chow. Of course, we’ll wash everything down with the iconic Caribbean Mojito. Summery and refreshing! If you think of Caribbean food as just spicy, you have a lot to learn! Let us teach you how diverse and vibrant this cuisine really is!

COVID 19 UPDATE: At this time we are asking all students to wear a mask to class. We will be taking temperatures at the door, as well as providing hand sanitizer upon your arrival. If you have any symptoms, have been around someone with symptoms, or have traveled outside the country recently we are asking that you please stay home. You may call to cancel your ticket with a two day or more notice, and we will issue a credit to be used on a future class. Thank you for supporting us during this challenging time! We will do our best to make our classes as educational and fun as ever.  Now that our county has moved to Tier 1, we can all enjoy our meal under The Cookery roof again! However, if you feel more comfortable taking all of our delicious foods home in a box, you can do that as well!  You will get a portion of each dish!

Please indicate the age of your child (children) in the comment sections so we can make sure that their recipes are age appropriate. Class ending times may vary. Please wear closed-toed shoes and wear your hair up off your shoulders.  Bring your favorite knife and a beverage to drink if you wish. We will provide knives if you do not have them.  We will also provide aprons. We will have filtered water to drink.

Our classes are popular and often sell out!  You must cancel your registration at least 7 days in advance to receive a full refund for this class.  There will be a processing fee to cancel your ticket per person no matter when you cancel. You can cancel by calling the school at 309-263-6020 or by emailing us your request to cancel at thecookeryinc@gmail.com.  Tickets canceled the day before or on the day of class will not receive a refund for any reason (even Covid related).  You may gift or sell your tickets to someone else if you are not able to come but we cannot forward them to another class.

If you have a cardboard gift card with a 3-digit number and want to redeem it for this class, you must call or email to reserve your class spot prior to the class selling out.  If you reserve your spot with a gift card and do not show, you will forfeit the amount owed for the class from your gift card. If your gift card has a 16-digit code, you can cash it in online when you purchase your ticket.
